The most effective way to significantly increase performance of the Toyota 3RZ engine is by installing a turbo kit. This turbo kit has been specifically designed and engineered to balance power and drivability.
A common issue with the addition of a turbo kit is excessive heat. In order to combat this issue, this turbo kit uses a CNC machined steel manifold. This manifold has shown excellent longevity with minimal power loss compared to tubular headers.
The turbo itself is a Garrett T3/T4 turbo that provides an ideal balance of spool time and inlet air. The T4 inlet allows for large amounts of air to be brought into the turbo while the T3 side allows for a quick spool up. This low boost kit uses a TO4E 50-trim with a stage 3 turbine wheel and a .63 A/R exhaust housing.
This kit is perfect for most daily driver or some race applications. The kit is designed to run from 10 lbs. up to 25 lbs. of boost. This kit can produce over 400 HP from the 3RZ engine.
One major issue to consider when boosting any engine is fuel management. The stock ECU was not designed to compensate for boost. This issue must be properly addressed to prevent engine damage or poor performance outputs which can be caused by improper tuning. One of the best ways to fix this issue is with a stand-alone or piggy-back ECU system.
